Donna Purcell, the ‘cat whisperer’ at Moore’s Rescue Ranch, gives new hope to cats in need

CHAMPAIGN, IL — Donna Purcell, affectionately known as the “cat whisperer” at Moore’s Rescue Ranch, has been an integral part of the rescue organization since its founding in late 2021. Working tirelessly behind the scenes, Donna has become known for her ability to form deep, nurturing connections with the many cats she cares for, helping them transition into loving homes.

Donna, who currently has two cats of her own, Rocky and Milo, describes the emotional challenge of fostering. “It’s hard not to get too attached to these cats,” she admits. “I have to remind myself all the time that there’s someone special out there who will make them part of their family.” Her compassion extends beyond the playful kittens she adores to the older cats with difficult pasts. Donna often finds herself giving extra attention to those who need it the most.

While fostering can be emotionally taxing, especially when hearing the heartbreaking stories of how some cats ended up at Moore’s Rescue Ranch, Donna takes solace in the joy that adopting these animals brings to their new owners. “The best part of rescuing cats is seeing the look of joy on people’s faces when they interact with a cat or kitten,” she says. “It’s even more rewarding when the adoption process is completed, and I know they’re going to a great home.”

Moore’s Rescue Ranch, which operates out of The Kitty Crib on North Market Street in Champaign, works tirelessly to find homes for the cats and kittens in their care. Through partnerships with local businesses like Hoveln Heating & Cooling, they are able to support their mission to adopt out pets and give them a second chance at life.

As a dedicated volunteer, Donna has worked with countless cats, ensuring that they receive the love and care they deserve while awaiting their forever homes. “I love all cats equally,” she says, with no preference for any particular color or personality trait. Her unwavering commitment to the cause has made her an invaluable part of the rescue effort.
