URBANA, IL (Chambana Today) – The Voices of Freedom Speakers Showcase is back for its second year on Saturday, April 26, at the Urbana-Champaign Independent Media Center. Hosted by Remind to Shine Motivational Media, the event highlights powerful, real-life stories from formerly incarcerated individuals who now serve as mentors, leaders, and advocates for change.

Founded by Crushion “Cru” Stubbs, a justice reform advocate and communications student, the showcase aims to shift public perception and support second chances through storytelling. Speakers include local entrepreneur Carlos Harvey, recovery advocate Jessica Wrightsman, and Damen Rowell, founder of a sober living home.

The evening will be hosted by national reentry leader Kardell Sims, with facilitation by communications coach Katie Martin. Held during National Second Chance Month, the event is free, open to the public, and supported by Illinois Humanities and UIUC’s Humanities Research Institute.

Doors open at 4:30 PM, with the program starting at 5:00 PM. Light refreshments will be served. RSVP at this link and learn more at ucimc.org/voicesoffreedom. For any further questions, contact Cru Stubbs at crushionstubbs80@gmail.com.
