Victim hospitalized after shooting on north Mattis Avenue in Champaign

CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) — Champaign Police are investigating a shooting that left one person injured Tuesday evening on the city’s west side.

Officers were dispatched to the 100 block of North Mattis Avenue at 6:55 p.m. on April 28 after receiving a report of a shooting with injuries. When officers arrived, they learned a victim had been struck by gunfire.

Police said the victim was located a few blocks away from the initial scene. Officers immediately began providing emergency medical aid with assistance from the Champaign Fire Department.

The victim was transported to an area hospital and is reported to be in stable condition.

No arrests have been made at this time. Police say the investigation is ongoing, and additional information will be released as it becomes available.
