URBANA, Ill. (Chambana Today) — A 21-year-old woman remains in serious condition after being shot Tuesday afternoon in a domestic-related incident on the 900 block of South Vine Street, according to Urbana Police.

Officers responded to the scene around 1:55 p.m., where they found the woman suffering from a gunshot wound. She was transported to a local hospital.

Due to the shooting’s proximity to Urbana Middle School and Urbana High School, both campuses were temporarily placed on lockdown until the area was deemed secure.

Following an investigation, police arrested 21-year-old Noah Allen of Urbana, identified as the victim’s boyfriend. Allen faces preliminary charges of Aggravated Domestic Battery, Attempted First Degree Murder, and Unlawful Use of a Weapon by a Felon.

Police say the shooting was domestic in nature and that there is no ongoing threat to the community.

The department thanked the public for quickly reporting the incident and reminded residents that all suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.

The case comes during Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Police encouraged anyone experiencing domestic violence or who knows someone who is, to reach out for help. Local and national resources were also highlighted in the department’s statement.

Crime Stoppers is offering up to $5,000 for information that leads to an arrest in any homicide case.
