Urbana officers treated after exposure during drug arrest on South Vine Street

URBANA, IL (Chambana Today)— A routine call regarding a suspicious vehicle turned serious early Monday morning after Urbana police officers were exposed to an unknown substance during an investigation, resulting in one officer losing consciousness.

At approximately 1:55 a.m. on August 25, 2025, officers were dispatched to the 1200 block of South Vine Street. Upon arrival, they located a parked vehicle and approached two occupants. During the investigation, officers came into contact with an unidentified liquid or substance inside the vehicle. One officer collapsed at the scene and was rushed to Carle Foundation Hospital. Several other officers were evaluated for exposure as a precaution and have since been treated and released.

Authorities arrested two individuals at the scene. Chane Butler, 51, was taken into custody on an initial charge of possession of a controlled substance. Brianna Holloway, 35, faces initial charges of possession of a controlled substance and resisting or obstructing a peace officer.

The Urbana Police Department has not released further details, citing the ongoing nature of the investigation. They emphasize that all suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
