Urbana firefighters extinguish second fire of the day on Sunday night

URBANA, IL (Chambana Today) — On Sunday night, the Urbana Fire Department responded to a second working structure fire in the city on the day.

At around 10:16 p.m., crews were sent to 1204 Hill Street after reports of a structure fire. Engine 253, which was stationed on Bradley Avenue, arrived at the scene in three minutes, and encountered a heavily involved detached garage fire, with. flames visible and threatening nearby structures.

Firefighters deployed multiple hoselines and initiated a fire attack while working to protect surrounding exposures. Additional personnel established a sustained water supply, utilized power saws to access the structure, and safely isolated utilities to the structure.

The fire was brought under control within 15 minutes of arrival thanks to the crews’ rapid efforts, with 25 Urbana FD personnel operating on scene for around one and a half hours conducting overhaul operations and ensuring all remaining hot spots were fully extinguished.

No firefighters injuries were reported during the incident.

The Urbana Fire Department Investigation Team is currently investigating the cause of the fire, which remains undetermined at this time.
