Unit 4 educators honored with Illinois “Those Who Excel” awards

SPRINGFIELD, IL (Chambana Today) – The Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) has recognized four educators from the Champaign Unit 4 School District with the prestigious 2025 Those Who Excel Awards. These awards celebrate the dedication, innovation, and impact of exceptional educators across the state.

“We are proud to celebrate the very best among Illinois’ educators today,” said State Superintendent of Education Dr. Tony Sanders. “The 2025 Those Who Excel awardees and Teacher of the Year Cohort exemplify excellence in teaching and leadership. These individuals ensure that their students feel supported, included, and inspired. My heartfelt congratulations to all the awardees and Teacher of the Year finalists.”

The Those Who Excel Awards recognize individuals and teams who are making a significant difference in Illinois schools. Award categories include classroom teachers, early career educators, school administrators, student support personnel, educational service personnel, community volunteers, and teams.

The Unit 4 educators honored this year are:

  • Annadel Melendez (Social Worker, International Prep Academy) – Award of Special Recognition, Student Support Personnel
  • Jennifer Crowley (Office Manager, Garden Hills Academy) – Award of Special Recognition, Educational Service Personnel
  • Albulena “Abby” Emroski (Assistant Principal, Booker T. Washington STEM Academy) – Award of Special Recognition
  • Dr. James Harden (Executive Director of Engagement & Social-Emotional Learning) – Award of Special Recognition
