U of I basketball head coach Brad Underwood named to NABC Board of Directors

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Chambana Today) — The National association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) announced on Wednesday the appointment of nine head men’s basketball coaches to the NABC Board of Directors, a group that includes Fighting Illini head coach Brad Underwood.

The NABC is a professional development and advocacy organization serving over 5,000 members in collegiate, scholastic, and youth basketball. The NABC works to advance all levels of basketball and operates as a collective national voice for coaches.

The coaches, who represent all three NCAA divisions, officially begin their terms on September 2 by participating in the annual NABC Board of Directors fall meeting.

Joining the board as new members alongside Underwood are Baylor head coach Scott Drew, North Georgia head coach Dan Evans, Yale head coach James Jones, Pomona-Pitzer head coach Charles Katsiaficas, Liberty head coach Ritchie McKay, Kentucky head coach Mark Pope, Duke head coach Jon Scheyer, and Notre Dame head coach Micah Shrewsberry.

The board of directors is the NABC’s top leadership body, providing strategic oversight of the association’s daily operations and advocacy work. The board’s composition includes representatives from all three NCAA divisions, along with the NAIA, two-year college, and high school levels.

“As college athletics and the game of basketball undergo unprecedented transformation, it’s vital that coaches continue to present a unified voice and demonstrate sound national leadership,” said NABC Executive Director Craig Robinson. “These nine coaches were identified by their peers as ideal candidates to represent our over 5,000 members on the NABC Board of Directors, and their diverse perspectives will strengthen the NABC’s efforts to support the profession and grow the sport.”

Minnesota State head coach Matt Margenthaler is serving as the NABC Board of Directors President for the 2025-26 season. The full Board roster can be viewed here.
