Two road closures begin Monday near U of I campus for utility installation work

CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) — Two separate road closures are set to begin Monday, May 18, near the University of Illinois campus for utility installation projects.

Sixth Street between Armory Avenue and Chalmers Street will be fully closed to through traffic while University Group and Lanz Inc. install water service at 1005 S. Sixth Street. That closure is expected to last through Wednesday, May 27, weather permitting.

Meanwhile, the southbound lane of Fourth Street between Daniel Street and Chalmers Street will close while Stark Excavating and Broeren Russo Construction install sanitary sewer, storm sewer, and water service at 310 Chalmers Street. The northbound lane will remain open and local property access will be maintained. That closure is expected to run through Monday, June 1. The affected areas are pictured below.

Drivers in the area are encouraged to use alternate routes and proceed cautiously through work zones.
