THE ROAD REPORT: More closures announced for Champaign-Urbana; plan accordingly

CHAMPAIGN-URBANA, IL (Chambana Today) – The Road Report is a helpful resource to keep your travels smooth and trouble-free. All projects are weather permitting.

Neil Street Lane Closure (between Main Street and Park Avenue)

In order to complete an emergency water main repair, Illinois American Water has closed one southbound lane of Neil Street between Main Street and Park Avenue. The closure began on Monday, September 29, and will reopen on Friday, October 3, weather permitting.  During the closure, southbound traffic will be reduced to one lane in the area.

Sumac Drive and Winchester Drive Lane Closures (at the intersection of Sumac Drive and Winchester Drive)

As part of the City’s 2025 Concrete Street Improvements Project, A&A Concrete will be closing one lane of Sumac Drive and one lane of Winchester Drive at the intersection in order to repair pavement.
The work will begin on Monday, September 29, 2025, and the closures are expected to last seven days, weather permitting.

Clover Lane and Branch Road Lane Closures (at the intersection of Clover Lane and Branch Road)

As part of the City’s 2025 Concrete Street Improvements Project, A&A Concrete will be closing one lane of Clover Lane and one lane of Branch Road at the intersection in order to repair pavement.
The work will begin on Monday, September 29, 2025, and the closures are expected to last seven days, weather permitting.

Bloomington Road Temporary Lane Closures (between Prospect Avenue and Harris Avenue)

In order to perform routine storm sewer maintenance activities, National Power Rodding Corp. will be working on Bloomington Road, between Prospect Avenue and Harris Avenue. Temporary lane closures may cause delays, but no total road closures are planned.

Work will occur between the hours of 4 a.m. and 7 a.m. daily beginning Monday, September 29.  Work is scheduled to be completed by Friday, October 3, 2025.  Work is weather dependent and may be delayed in the event of inclement weather.  The City has issued a Noise Ordinance Waiver to extend construction hours to allow work to be done prior to the early morning commute.

Garden Hills Phase 3 Project (Paula Drive/Melanie Lane/Honeysuckle Lane)

Starting September 15, 2025, Paula Drive will be closed to vehicular traffic at the intersection of Paula Drive and Melanie Lane through to the west half of the Paula Drive and Honeysuckle Lane intersection. However, starting September 17, all access to driveways will be removed. Residents will be able to park across the street where parking is available, but not within the construction zone. Pedestrian access to all homes will be maintained throughout construction.

This new closure is expected to take 6-8 weeks. This work is weather dependent and may be delayed in the event of inclement weather. More lane and/or road closures will be announced throughout the phases of the project.

Annual Paving Project

Starting Monday, September 15, crews will begin milling and paving the following locations as part of the 2025 Annual Paving Project:
• Fifth Street from Bradley Avenue to Washington Street
• Wright Street from Columbia Avenue to Church Street
• Holts Drive from Phillips Drive to Fourth Street
• Columbia Avenue from Fourth Street to Wright Street
• Vine Street from Fourth Street to Wright Street
The work will begin with milling on Monday, September 15. One lane in each direction will be open to through traffic; however, motorists are urged to take alternate routes to avoid delays. Work at these locations is scheduled to be complete by Friday, October 3.

Anthony Drive Road Closure (between Dobbins Drive and Campbell Drive)

William Charles Construction and IDOT will close Anthony Drive between Dobbins Drive and Campbell Drive. Both eastbound and westbound Anthony Drive traffic will be detoured in the area.  The closure will occur between the hours of 7 a.m. and 6 p.m., starting on Wednesday, September 10, and will end on Friday, October 3, 2025

Garden Hills Phase 3 Project (Garden Hills Drive)

Starting Tuesday, May 27, Garden Hills Drive will be fully closed to vehicular traffic between the south leg of the Paula Drive/Garden Hills Drive intersection through where Garden Hills Drive dead ends just north of the train tracks. During construction through this segment, residents will not be able to enter or leave their driveways. Residents will be able to park on the street where street parking is available, but not within the construction zone. Pedestrian access to all homes will be maintained throughout construction.
