Teen injured in Urbana shooting; Police seek public’s help

The 14-year-old was struck once by gunfire. The 16-year-old was not injured.


URBANA, Ill. (Chambana Today) — A 14-year-old boy was injured in a shooting Thursday night in Urbana, prompting an ongoing police investigation and a call for help from area residents.

According to the Urbana Police Department, officers began investigating after the teenager arrived at Carle Hospital around 8:10 p.m. on Jan. 29 with a gunshot wound. Police said the injury was non-life-threatening, and the victim was treated and released.

Investigators determined the teen and a 16-year-old male were sitting inside a vehicle in the 1100 block of Hill Street when two male suspects approached and fired multiple shots into the car. The 14-year-old was struck once by gunfire. The 16-year-old was not injured.

Both juveniles are residents of Rantoul. Police are continuing to investigate why the pair were parked in Urbana at the time of the incident.

No suspect information has been released, and the shooting remains under investigation.

Police are asking residents along Hill Street, Harvey Street, and Fairview Avenue to review surveillance or doorbell camera footage from around the time of the shooting and report any suspicious activity.
