CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (Chambana Today) — University of Illinois students wasted no time securing their seats for the upcoming men’s basketball season, selling out all 3,000 student season tickets in just 18 minutes — the fastest sellout in program history.

The rapid sellout breaks last year’s record of 26 minutes and marks the fifth consecutive year that student season tickets have completely sold out. Previous years saw sellout times ranging from less than three hours to under 24 hours.

The high demand comes as the Fighting Illini prepare for another promising season. Illinois returns three starters from last year’s 22-win team, which reached the NCAA Tournament’s second round and finished with a No. 17 KenPom ranking.

Under head coach Brad Underwood, the Illini have become a consistent force in the Big Ten, leading the conference in wins over the past six seasons. They are also one of just four programs nationwide to post six straight 20-win regular seasons.

With excitement building and the State Farm Center expected to be packed once again, Illinois men’s basketball continues to draw passionate student support ahead of what could be another standout year.
