SHOOTING UPDATE: Champaign County Coroner releases shooting victim’s name

CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) — A 35-year-old man from Urbana is dead, and two suspects are in custody following a deadly shooting early Sunday morning in Champaign.

Champaign County Coroner Laurie Brauer confirmed Monday that the victim was R.L. Glenn Selvin, who was pronounced dead at Carle Foundation Hospital at 3:33 a.m. on Sunday.

Champaign police responded to reports of a shooting in the 2500 block of West Springfield Avenue at approximately 3:04 a.m. When officers arrived, they found Selvin unconscious with multiple gunshot wounds. Despite emergency medical efforts, he died shortly after.

According to investigators, Selvin was in a parking lot when he was approached by two men who opened fire before fleeing the scene. Police later located the suspect vehicle in the 2000 block of Moreland Boulevard.

As the investigation progressed, officers identified and arrested Tyson Moore, 32, of Champaign, and Deandre Newbill, 37, of Urbana. Both men are facing first-degree murder charges. Authorities also recovered two firearms believed to be linked to the shooting.

The investigation remains active, and police are seeking the public’s help.
