Section of I-57 northbound near Paxton still closed; one injured

PAXTON, IL (Chambana Today) — A section of Interstate 57 northbound near milepost 261 in Ford County remains closed following an early morning crash involving multiple vehicles, including two semi-trailers.

According to the Illinois State Police, the incident occurred around 4 a.m. when a truck-tractor semi-trailer veered off the roadway, rolled over, and struck a guardrail. The crash blocked the right lane and dislodged approximately 60 feet of guardrail, scattering debris across the highway.

Moments later, a Subaru Outback and a second truck-tractor semi-trailer collided with the debris. The driver of the second semi-trailer was transported to a local hospital with injuries. No other injuries have been reported at this time.

Cleanup crews are working to clear the scene and repair the damaged guardrail. Traffic is being diverted while the investigation and recovery efforts continue. Drivers are advised to avoid the area and seek alternate routes.

The cause of the initial crash is still under investigation.
