Savoy motorcyclist dies following multi-vehicle crash in Urbana

SAVOY, IL (Chambana Today) — A 39-year-old Savoy man has been identified as the motorcyclist who died following a multi-vehicle crash on South Lincoln Avenue in Urbana.

John K. Goeken was pronounced dead at 1:26 p.m. Saturday at Carle Foundation Hospital’s emergency department, according to Champaign County Coroner Laurie Brauer.

Authorities have scheduled an autopsy, and the case remains under investigation by the Champaign County Coroner’s Office, University of Illinois Police Department (UIPD), and Illinois State Police.

Officers responded to the scene around 12:30 p.m. Saturday, discovering damage to both a motorcycle and an SUV. The driver of the SUV was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Southbound Lincoln Avenue was closed from Windsor Road to St. Mary’s Road for several hours while crews cleared the scene.

Police later confirmed that Goeken succumbed to his injuries. Investigators continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the crash.
