CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) — Champaign Police are increasing their presence near Centennial High School and Centennial Park following unconfirmed rumors of a potential teen gathering in the area.

According to police, the rumored event was believed to take place either Tuesday or Wednesday at one of several locations around the school and park. Authorities emphasized that no credible threat has been identified to any school, park, or the broader community.

Police have been working with the Champaign Park District and Champaign Unit 4 Schools as part of a coordinated response, which follows a recent deadly incident in the community on March 21. Officials say they are monitoring information, including rumors circulating among residents, to help ensure public safety.

Officers will remain in the area throughout the afternoon and evening, along with staff from the city’s Equity and Engagement Department.

Authorities are also encouraging parents and guardians to talk with teenagers about the risks associated with large, unsupervised gatherings and to promote safe decision-making.
