Parkland trustees approve new peace officer and FY27 contracts

CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) — The Parkland College Board of Trustees met Wednesday to approve a series of appointments, contracts, and purchases ahead of the 2027 fiscal year.

Trustees appointed Derek Fletcher as a new Peace Officer for the Parkland Public Safety Department. A graduate of the University of Illinois Police Academy in December 2025, Fletcher completed four months of field training and now serves as a solo officer, demonstrating a commitment to public service and leadership.

In addition, Amie Loyd, Vice President for Administration and Chief Financial Officer, was named College Treasurer effective June 1, 2026.

The board approved several major contracts and purchases, including:

  • A two-year marketing and advertising agreement with Central States Media totaling $330,000
  • Electrical distribution panel safety improvements from Bodine Electric for $1,093,744
  • Annual software maintenance renewals of $2,168,105
  • Computer hardware purchases totaling $2.2 million
  • Health plan broker services from 360 Benefits Group for $180,000

Trustees also approved participation in the shared Tyler Technologies Computer-Aided Dispatch System with METCAD for $43,767 annually, and various grants, including funding for adult education, advanced manufacturing, and apprenticeship initiatives.

College leadership provided updates on legislative matters, campus technology, marketing, and fundraising efforts. Appointments in the Adult Education department were also announced, including Galina Obushinskaya as an advisor.
