Parkland College music ensembles enter Fall concert season

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (Chambana Today) — Parkland College’s music ensembles will continue the fall 2025 concert season with performances from the orchestra, voice, and choir ensembles.

The Parkland College Orchestra and the Centennial High School Chamber and Concert Orchestra will perform “Autumn Orchestra Showcase” on Tuesday, October 7 at Centennial’s Aldridge Auditorium at 7 p.m.

The Parkland Orchestra is directed by Dr. Rodney Mueller and the Centennial Orchestra is directed by Lily Samson. They will perform a variety of selections. These include “Interlude “”‘Nightfall'” by Yukiko Nishimura, “Aboriginal Rituals” by Elliot Del Borgo, “Overture to Nabucco” by Giuseppe Verdi, arranged by Sandra Dackow, and “Swamp Thang” by Richard Meyer.

The groups will also perform “Dreaming” by Brian Balmages, “Mysteria Abyssi” by Kirt Mosier, “The Sleeping Beauty, Suite for Orchestra Op. 66a” by Pyotr Tchaikovsky, “Danse Macabre, Op. 40” by Camille Saint-Saëns, and “Symphonic Highlights” with music by Hans Zimmer.
 
The Voice and Choir ensemble will perform on Saturday, October 11 at 7 p.m. at the Giertz Gallery located on Parkland’s main campus.
 
Directed by Dr. Cheryl Forest Morganson, the group will perform selections including “I’m Alive” from “Next to Normal”, “What a Wonderful World” with lyrics and music by Bob Thiele and George David Weiss, “Santa Fe” from “Newsies”, and “Creep”, composed by Radiohead.
