One dead, one injured in Danville parking lot shooting Friday; suspect in custody

DANVILLE, IL (Chambana Today) — One person was killed and another was injured in a shooting Friday afternoon in the parking lot of a Save-A-Lot grocery store in downtown Danville, according to the Danville Police Department.

Officers responded to the store at 2 East Main Street at approximately 5:03 p.m. following a report of a physical altercation involving gunfire. Two individuals were found suffering from gunshot wounds and transported for medical treatment. One was later pronounced dead. The condition of the second individual has not been released.

One suspect is in custody pending the filing of formal charges. Police say there is no ongoing threat to public safety. The identities of those involved are being withheld pending formal charges and notification of next of kin.
