CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) – Illinois freshman Kasparas Jakucionis has been selected as a Top 10 candidate for the prestigious Jerry West Shooting Guard of the Year Award, as announced by the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame.

Jakucionis Averages 15.6 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 5.5 assists per game. He is shooting 47% from the field, 35% from three-point range, and 83.5% from the free-throw line. He has tied the program’s freshman record with eight 20-point games. This recognition marks a significant achievement for Jakucionis, who has also earned Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors twice this season. His versatility on both ends of the floor, coupled with his scoring ability, has solidified his place among the nation’s top shooting guards.

The Jerry West Award, named in honor of the Hall of Famer and 1959 NCAA Final Four Most Valuable Player, enters its 11th year of honoring the top shooting guards in men’s Division I basketball.  Jakucionis’ selection to the Top 10 list places him in elite company alongside other standout shooting guards, including Caleb Love of Arizona, VJ Edgecombe of Baylor, and Alijah Martin of Florida. Fans can participate in the Fan Vote, which will influence the final selection of the award finalists. Voting will begin on February 7 at hoophallawards.com.

As the season progresses, the list will be narrowed to five finalists in March, with the winner announced later that month. The selection process is guided by a committee of esteemed figures in college basketball, including coaches, media members, sports information directors, and Hall of Famers.
