PESOTUM, Ill. (Chambana Today) — The Illinois State Police (ISP) announced the results of recent Alcohol Countermeasure Enforcement (ACE) patrols conducted in Champaign County during September, as part of ongoing efforts to combat impaired driving and increase roadway safety.

According to Troop 7 Commander Heather Apperson, the specialized patrols focused on identifying and addressing violations related to driving under the influence (DUI), illegal alcohol or drug use, and other traffic safety laws.

While no DUI or alcohol/drug-related citations were issued during the campaign, officers did issue a total of 38 citations/arrests and 5 written warnings, including:

  • 3 occupant restraint (seatbelt) offenses
  • 6 driver’s license offenses
  • 4 insurance violations

The patrols are part of a statewide initiative funded by the Illinois Department of Transportation, which supports law enforcement in reducing impaired driving and promoting public safety. According to state estimates, alcohol or drug impairment contributes to more than 47% of all fatal crashes in Illinois.

The enforcement initiative is part of the national “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign, reminding motorists of the risks—and legal consequences—of impaired driving.
