CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) — The Illinois State Police conducted more than 1,000 firearm enforcement details statewide in 2025, bringing nearly 5,000 people into compliance with state law, the agency announced.

Local law enforcement agencies supported by state grants reported nearly 11,000 compliance checks in fiscal year 2025 — the highest since the grant program began.

“ISP is protecting our communities by taking steps to ensure deadly weapons aren’t in the hands of those who pose a risk to themselves or others,” said Gov. JB Pritzker.

Enforcement details targeted individuals subject to Firearms Restraining Orders, Clear and Present Danger designations, or criminal convictions. Since the program launched in 2019, ISP has conducted nearly 3,000 details and placed more than 11,400 individuals into compliance. The agency has also blocked more than 172,800 unlawful attempts to obtain a firearm through eligibility checks since 2020.

ISP also provides grants to local agencies for firearms compliance work. Grant-funded compliance checks have grown each year:
