Illinois Sheriffs’ Association announces scholarship opportunities for 2026–27 school year

CHAMPAIGN COUNTY, Ill. (Chambana Today) — The Illinois Sheriffs’ Association is offering more than $58,000 in college scholarships to students across the state who plan to pursue higher education during the 2026–2027 academic year.

According to the announcement, the scholarships may be used for tuition, books and fees. Recipients must be enrolled full time at a certified institution of higher learning, with online coursework also considered acceptable.

In Champaign County, Sheriff Dustin Heuerman will award one scholarship in the amount of $500. The program is open to eligible students without restriction based on race, age, creed, color, sex or national origin.

Applications are now available through local sheriff’s offices and on the Illinois Sheriffs’ Association website. Completed applications must be returned to the sheriff’s office in the applicant’s county of permanent residence by the stated deadline.
