CHAMPAIGN-URBANA, Ill. (Chambana Today) — Illinois Humanities and the Illinois Arts Council (IAC) are co-hosting One State: Meeting the Moment, a historic statewide gathering taking place November 5–7, in Urbana-Champaign.
The first event of its kind, One State: Meeting the Moment unites artists, humanists, funders, policymakers, and cultural leaders from across Illinois to explore how creativity, civic dialogue, and public investment can help communities “meet the moment” in an evolving social and political landscape.
“The arts and humanities give us the chance to understand one another and connect across differences,” said Dr. Gabrielle Lyon, Executive Director of Illinois Humanities. “This historic gathering builds on decades of impact and deep commitment to our state’s small and rural towns, and urban and suburban communities. It’s no small feat to gather across regions—and despite stiff federal headwinds—to share what we care about and imagine what’s possible for our state’s residents when we’re working together.”
Timed to coincide with Illinois Humanities’ 50th anniversary and the Illinois Arts Council’s 60th, the convening underscores Illinois’ national leadership in fostering cultural vitality. Over three days, participants will engage in discussions, workshops, and performances that highlight how the arts and humanities can strengthen communities, spark dialogue, and inspire collective action.
“Illinois has a long and proud history of supporting the arts and humanities, and this gathering marks an important next chapter,” said Joshua Ruperto-Davis, Executive Director of the Illinois Arts Council. “By coming together, we’re celebrating that legacy and committing to building a future where creative expression and public investment continue to shape our state.”
