Illinois honored with Global Startup Ecosystem Award for Innovation Leadership

CHICAGO, Ill. (Chambana Today) — The State of Illinois has been recognized internationally for its leadership in innovation, earning a Startup Ecosystem Stars Award at the 2025 ceremony in Paris, hosted by the International Chamber of Commerce and Mind the Bridge.

The Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity was singled out for its achievements in talent development, research, investment, industry support, and innovation policy.

“Illinois is a hub for innovative industries, talented entrepreneurs, and competitive incentives that fuel our growing economy. I’m proud that our leadership in innovation continues to be recognized on the world stage,” said Governor JB Pritzker.

Illinois earned recognition across five categories:

  • Best-in-Class Startup Programs: Illinois State Trade and Export Promotion Program helps startups expand internationally.

  • Outstanding Investment Boost: Illinois Federal Grant Support Program co-invests in federal innovation awards.

  • Top Talent & Research: SBIR/STTR State Matching Program accelerates commercialization of groundbreaking innovations.

  • Exceptional Industry Support: Manufacturing Illinois Chips for Real Opportunity Program strengthens industrial clusters in quantum and microelectronics.

  • Pioneering Innovation Policy: Illinois Quantum Enterprise Zone incentivizes clustering of quantum-focused companies and researchers.

“We’re proud that Illinois is once again being recognized on the global stage for our leadership in innovation and economic development,” said DCEO Director Kristin Richards.

Of the 36 organizations worldwide honored, Illinois was the only recipient to win in all five categories, underscoring the state’s strategic approach to building a future-ready, globally competitive economy.
