Illinois Conservation Foundation announces recipients of Outdoor Excellence Awards

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (Chambana Today) — On Wednesday, the Illinois Conservation Foundation (ICF) announced the recipients of its annual Outdoor Excellence Awards.

The awards are given to individuals and organizations whose work has strengthened conservation, outdoor recreation, and public access across the state of Illinois.

The winners are as follows:

Outdoor Writer/Author of the Year: Steve Sarley

Sarley is recognized for more than three decades of engaging outdoor storytelling through The Outdoor Experience and his long-running columns in the Daily Herald and Outdoor News. His work has helped make outdoor recreation, conservation, and ethical hunting and fishing accessible to readers and listeners across the state.

Outdoor Influencer of the Year: Josh Monahan

Monahan, 39, of LeRoy is celebrated for showcasing central Illinois fishing opportunities. He is known as ILfishNdad online. Through educational and research-driven content, he has become an ambassador for local waters, inspiring anglers of all experience levels to explore Illinois fisheries.

Outdoor Business of the Year: Lakes and Rivers Contracting

Lakes and Rivers Contracting is honored for its exceptional work on the William Powers State Recreation Area accessible fishing pier and kayak launch project. Its cost-conscious design approach helped deliver a high-impact accessibility project that expanded public access to outdoor recreation across Illinois

Outdoor Volunteer Organization of the Year: Backcountry Hunters and Anglers, Illinois Chapter

The Illinois Chapter of Backcountry Hunters and Anglers is recognized for its leadership in developing the Lake Shelbyville Archery Park. The project created a benchmark public archery range offering accessible, year-round opportunities for all ages and abilities on public land.
