RANTOUL, IL (Chambana Today) — Habitat for Humanity of Champaign County is accepting homebuyer applications from April 14 through April 21, including for a unique solar-powered home built in partnership with the University of Illinois Solar Decathlon team.

The featured property — a 1,600-square-foot, three-bedroom, two-bathroom home in Rantoul — was designed and constructed by UI students as part of a collegiate competition focused on high-performance, low-carbon building. The all-electric, solar-powered home features energy-efficient construction and a modern layout.

“This partnership with the Illinois Solar Decathlon team reflects our shared commitment to building high-quality, affordable, and sustainable housing for local families,” Habitat said in a statement.

Applications will be accepted online or in person at the Champaign County ReStore at 1914 Glenn Park Drive in Champaign. Prospective applicants can review qualifications and apply at cuhabitat.org.
