URBANA, IL (Chambana Today) — In recognition of International Overdose Awareness Day, the Champaign-Urbana Public Health District (CUPHD) is offering a free Narcan training session to equip community members with life-saving knowledge about opioid overdose response.

The training will be held on Saturday, August 30, at the Champaign Public Library. While the event is private and intended for organizational participation, it represents a growing effort to engage more groups in overdose prevention efforts.

Led by CUPHD’s Joe Trotter, the training will cover critical topics such as identifying opioid overdose symptoms, understanding the effects of opioids, and how to properly administer Narcan, a nasal spray that can reverse the effects of opioid overdose.

“Knowing how to use Narcan can save a life,” said Trotter. “We’re working to empower individuals and organizations with the tools they need to make a difference during a crisis.”

The event is part of broader activities marking International Overdose Awareness Day, a global campaign to end overdose, reduce stigma, and remember those lost to substance use. For more information on local events and resources, visit www.overdoseday.com/champaign.

For questions or to inquire about future training opportunities, contact Joe Trotter at 217-531-5370 or email jtrotter@c-uphd.org.
