CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (Chambana Today) — A nationwide event that looks to provide dental care to those in need is coming later this fall, with several Central Illinois dentist offices participating.

On Saturday, September 6, Free Dentistry Day aims to address the need for dental care nationwide. Free Dentistry Day, according to its website, is a day dedicated to providing access to free dental care across the nation. Thousands of dentists across the United States come together in an effort to give back to the communities they serve by providing residents with easily accessible, high-quality dental care for free. Those interested in receiving Free Dentistry Day services simply have to show up to a participating dental office.

According to the CareQuest Institute for Oral Health, 76.5 million adults in the U.S. do not have dental insurance, and many go without preventative dental treatment and procedures they need, simply because they do not have the financial means to pay for it.

People who are unable to visit the dentist regularly have the opportunity to receive select services provided during Free Dentistry Day events to improve the quality of not just their oral health, but their overall health and wellbeing.

Last year, 4,379 patients were treated at 251 locations nationwide, and $1.8 million of dentistry was donated as part of Free Dentistry Day.

Family Dental Care of Champaign and Champaign Dental Group will be participating in the event, while North Vermilion Family Dental in Danville will also be participating.

  • Family Dental Care of Champaign: 14 East Anthony Drive, Champaign
  • Champaign Dental Group: 703B South Neil Street, Champaign
  • North Vermilion Family Dental: 3607 North Vermilion Street Suite 4, Danville

Dental care is limited to select services. For instance, Family Dental Care of Champaign is offering a free cleaning, filling, or extraction.

Patients interested in receiving care are encouraged to call ahead to arrange an appointment or inquire on available services.
