Dryer fire quickly contained in South Mattis Avenue apartment

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (Chambana Today) — Firefighters from the Champaign Fire Department responded swiftly to a fire Sunday afternoon in a multi-family apartment building located in the 700 block of S. Mattis Avenue.

The incident occurred on September 7 at approximately 2:21 p.m., after a report of a dryer fire in the building’s basement laundry room. Upon arrival, fire crews observed smoke coming from the area and were able to quickly locate and extinguish the small fire using fire extinguishers.

Investigators determined the fire originated in a dryer vent and was accidental in nature. Fortunately, no injuries were reported among residents or firefighters.

Fire officials emphasized the importance of regular dryer vent maintenance to prevent similar incidents.
