Downtown Danville parking garage to be used on two Saturdays this month for firefighter testing

DANVILLE, IL (Chambana Today) — Residents who rely on the parking garage at 22 North Walnut Street in Danville may want to make alternate plans on two Saturdays this month, as the Danville Fire Department will be using the facility for physical agility testing as part of its 2026 firefighter hiring process.

“Residents and visitors may notice increased activity in and around the parking garage during these scheduled times,” Fire Chief Aaron Marcott said in a release. “Some disruption to normal parking operations within the garage may occur during testing activities; however, no road closures are anticipated.”

Testing sessions are scheduled for Saturday, May 9, and Saturday, May 23, both running from 9 a.m. to noon. The department says some disruption to normal parking operations within the garage is expected during those windows, and residents and visitors in the area may notice increased foot traffic and activity around the facility. No road closures are anticipated.

If you’re planning to head downtown on either of those Saturday mornings, it may be worth leaving a little extra time or scouting out alternative parking ahead of your visit.
