CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) — Parkland College is currently on lockdown following a police response to a shooting that occurred on the corner of Mattis Avenue and Parkland Way, which is just off of the college’s campus to the east.

A release from Parkland shared that three male suspects were at large, reportedly on foot wearing black clothing. At around noon, Parkland announced it would be on lockdown until further notice, and that the area should be avoided until further notice.

At 12:19 p.m., Parkland announced that the lockdown would continue, and that all afternoon classes would be cancelled.

A third update was shared via the college’s social media platforms, sharing that the college did not have an active shooter on campus and emphasizing that the incident occurred off campus. It was shared that the main campus will remain open, with visitors encouraged to use the Bradley Avenue and Duncan Road entrance to the south.

“Police continue to respond to incident on Mattis Ave and that facility remains on lockdown,” the school said. “Please continue to avoid the area.”

At 1:20 p.m., Parkland on Mattis received the ALL CLEAR. While afternoon classes remain cancelled, evening classes that begin at 5 p.m. or later will proceed at schedule, with offices at Parkland on Mattis also now open.
