DANVILLE, Ill. (Chambana Today) — This Wednesday’s “What’s Brewing with Mayor Williams” on November 5th is being rescheduled for November 13th from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at Turtle Run Golf Course and Banquet Center.

The City of Danville has just been selected by the Illinois Chapter of the American Public Works Association (APWA) to receive the 2024 Project of the Year Award for the Garfield Park and Aquatic Center Project that will take place in Peoria on November 5th at the same time that the What’s Brewing event was to take place.

Mayor Rickey Williams Jr. will proudly accept the award along with Director of Public Works, Dave Ruwe. Accompanying them will be the Farnsworth Group who designed the project and a Schomburg & Schomburg Construction Company representative from Danville, who constructed the project. “This project embodies our commitment to quality living, community resurgence and creating vibrant spaces for all to enjoy,” said Rheanna Ollis, Community Relations Administrator.

Mayor Williams had this to say about the Garfield Park project. “I believe the people of Danville deserve vibrant recreational spaces right here at home. As we tackle and complete major infrastructure projects, such as sewer system, we must also invest in the quality of life for our residents. I am proud that we are able to revitalize Garfield Park and Aquatic Center.”

The Danville Aquatic Center in Garfield Park, was completed last year and had its Grand Opening on June 15, 2024. The center is equipped with bathrooms, showers, lockers, three large water slides, two dive boards and the main pool that is more than 10,000 square feet. More plans are expected to follow in coming years to expand the 10-acre area in the future.
