DANVILLE, Ill. (Chambana Today) — More than seven years after a double homicide shocked a Danville neighborhood, police have announced an arrest in the 2018 killings of LaTrey Reed and Taniyah Williams.

Danville Police said they obtained and executed an arrest warrant for Dakota Patton, 29, of Danville, charging him with first-degree murder in connection with the July 5, 2018, shooting deaths. Patton was taken into custody without incident.

Reed, 21, and Williams, 20, were found dead inside a residence in the 1300 block of Lape Street after officers responded to a 4:15 a.m. call reporting an unresponsive male. Both victims had suffered gunshot wounds, and the case was immediately classified as a homicide.

At the time, police reported two other people were inside the home but were not injured. Detectives conducted neighborhood interviews and collected evidence, but no arrests were made until now.

The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Danville Police Department at 217-431-2250 or Crime Stoppers at 217-446-TIPS.
