DANVILLE, IL (Chambana Today) – Derrell L. Boston, a 28-year-old man from Danville, was arrested early Friday morning on a warrant for First-Degree Murder in connection to the shooting death of 35-year-old Joseph Jones. The arrest follows a months-long investigation by the Danville Police Department (DPD) into the murder of Jones, who was found deceased on December 21, 2024, at the intersection of Collett and Williams Streets in Danville.

Boston was apprehended at around 1 a.m. on January 4, 2025, while sitting in a vehicle at a business in the 1200 block of N. Bowman Avenue. Officers, who had been investigating the case, identified Boston as a suspect based on evidence gathered during the investigation. Upon his arrest, he was transported to the Public Safety Building, where he was charged with the first-degree murder of Jones.

The shooting occurred on the night of December 21, 2024, when Joseph Jones was found dead at the intersection of Collett and Williams, marking the city’s second homicide of the year. The Vermilion County State’s Attorney’s Office worked closely with DPD in obtaining the arrest warrant for Boston, who is currently being investigated as the shooter responsible for Jones’s death.

The Danville Police Department reminded the public that all arrestees are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. This is an ongoing investigation, and no further details about the case were released at this time.

Authorities are asking anyone with information about the incident to contact the Danville Police Department at 217-431-2250 or submit tips anonymously via Vermilion County Crimestoppers at vccrimstoppers.org, the P3 TIPS app, or by calling 217-446-TIPS.
