DANVILLE, Ill. (Chambana Today) — A 35-year-old Danville man has been arrested following a hit-and-run crash that left a 14-year-old pedestrian injured on Sunday afternoon.

Danville Police responded around 4:32 p.m. on September 28 to a report of a crash near Bowman Avenue and Crestview Drive, where they found the juvenile victim had been struck by a vehicle that fled the scene. The teen was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

With help from a witness and nearby Flock traffic cameras, investigators identified the suspect vehicle as a 2013 Chevrolet Traverse. Officers traced the vehicle to a residence in the 100 block of Nicklas Avenue, where they arrested George E. Atkinson, 35, of Danville. He was taken into custody on a preliminary charge of leaving the scene of an accident involving injury.

Police emphasize that a criminal complaint is an accusation, and Atkinson is presumed innocent until proven guilty. The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with additional information is encouraged to contact Danville Police at (217) 431-2250 or Vermilion County Crime Stoppers at (217) 446-TIPS.
