DANVILLE, Ill. (Chambana Today) — A late-night fire on Thursday, November 6, led to a dramatic rescue as Danville firefighters saved a man trapped on the second floor of a burning home at 601 North Beard Street.

Fire crews were dispatched around 10:43 p.m. and arrived to find a detached garage fully engulfed in flames, spreading to the nearby residence and threatening another structure. While firefighters battled the blaze, the incident commander spotted a flashlight moving in an upstairs window — prompting an immediate rescue operation.

Firefighters from Engine 1 quickly raised a ladder, entered the home, and brought the man to safety. He was treated at the scene by Arrow Ambulance personnel and released. No firefighter injuries were reported.

Crews remained on site until about 12:50 a.m. performing overhaul and assisting investigators. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Danville Fire Department and the Illinois State Fire Marshal’s Office.

Fire Chief Aaron Marcott commended his team’s quick and coordinated response, saying, “This was a well-coordinated operation that directly resulted in a life being saved. The professionalism and teamwork of our firefighters reflect the training and commitment they bring to every call.”

The fire caused an estimated $40,000 in damage. Anyone with information is asked to contact Captain Ryan Allison at (217) 431-2350.
