URBANA, Ill. (Chambana Today) — What began as a small orphanage in 1895 has grown into one of Champaign County’s most respected organizations serving children and families. This year, Cunningham Children’s Home is celebrating its 130th anniversary, honoring a legacy of compassion, faith, and community partnership that started with a single act of generosity.

Cunningham opened its doors on October 25, 1895, thanks to Judge Joe and Mary Cunningham, who donated their home to create a safe haven for children in need of shelter and care. Today, the organization employs more than 400 staff members and serves nearly 1,000 children and families each year through a wide range of therapeutic, educational, and community-based programs.

“Our story is rooted in love and service,” said Marlin Livingston, Cunningham’s President and CEO. “From our beginnings as an orphanage to today’s comprehensive programs, we’ve remained steadfast in our mission—to nourish hope through effective solutions so children thrive and families flourish.”

The organization recently hosted a Board Appreciation Day and Annual Meeting, where more than 100 current and former board members, staff, and supporters gathered to celebrate. For more information about Cunningham Children’s Home and its programs, visit www.cunninghamhome.org.
