CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) — Vermilion County is taking a bold and refreshingly modern approach to one of its biggest challenges: not just a workforce gap, but a perception gap. 

Too often, young people grow up unaware of the real career opportunities available in their own community. While they are constantly consuming content online, very little of it reflects the industries, employers, and pathways that exist right in their backyard. The result is a widespread belief that success requires leaving home. 

Creator Camp is designed to change that narrative. Led by Monyok Leadership in partnership with Vermilion Advantage, this innovative initiative rethinks traditional workforce development by meeting the next generation where they already are: on social media. 

From June 14 to 18, 2026, thirty Vermilion County high school juniors and seniors will step into the role of content creators. Rather than sitting through presentations or career fairs, these students will visit local employers, explore real workplaces, and create short-form videos that showcase career opportunities through their own perspective. 

This experience is made possible by local businesses that are stepping up to sponsor the camp and invest directly in the future workforce of Vermilion County. Their involvement goes beyond financial support. They are opening their doors, sharing their stories, and helping shape how the next generation understands opportunity. It is a powerful example of a community coming together to invest in its own future. 

This is not adults telling students what is possible. It is students showing other students on the platforms that shape their decisions and aspirations. 

The impact is twofold. 

For students, Creator Camp builds awareness of real career paths available locally, helps them envision a future in Vermilion County, and connects them directly with employers, mentors, and community leaders. It turns abstract ideas about “jobs” into tangible, relatable experiences. 

For the broader community, the program generates something equally valuable: authentic, youth-driven storytelling. During the camp, students will produce a full year’s worth of content that highlights local businesses, industries, and career opportunities. This content will reach thousands of their peers and continue promoting the message that Vermilion County is a place where young people can build meaningful and successful careers. 

It creates ongoing visibility for employers and begins to shift the narrative from “there is nothing here for me” to “there is real opportunity here.”
