CHAMPAIGN/MACON COUNTIES (Chambana Today) — Traffic disruptions occurred Friday on two central Illinois interstates as a crash and emergency road repairs affected travel on Interstate 57 and Interstate 72.

Officials reported that all northbound traffic on Interstate 57 was diverted off the highway at Exit 240 after a crash blocked the northbound lanes. Drivers were directed off the interstate while crews worked to clear the scene, and authorities said an additional notification would be issued once the roadway reopened at 3:24 a.m.

Meanwhile, on Interstate 72, westbound traffic was reduced to one lane near milepost 152 over Friends Creek in Macon County due to emergency road repairs.

The Illinois Department of Transportation closed the right westbound lane for several hours while crews repaired the roadway. Motorists traveling through the area experienced delays as the work was completed.

Drivers were urged to slow down and use caution when approaching work zones and traffic incidents on the interstates.
