CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) — The Champaign Police Department has released the results of a March traffic enforcement campaign aimed at reducing impaired driving and improving road safety.

The campaign ran from March 13 through March 23 and was conducted in partnership with the Illinois Department of Transportation, Illinois State Police and more than 200 law enforcement agencies statewide.

During the effort, Champaign Police dedicated 20 hours of grant-funded enforcement, focusing on major roadways and areas where traffic impacts residential neighborhoods.

Authorities reported a total of nine citations for moving violations and three citations for expired registration. Officers also made one DUI arrest during the campaign.

Additional enforcement actions included citations for improper transportation of alcohol, an equipment violation and driving without a valid license.

Officials said the campaign was funded through federal traffic safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
