CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (Chambana Today) — The Champaign Fire Department will launch its 2025 Fire Prevention Week campaign with a focus on a modern household safety concern: lithium-ion batteries.
This year’s theme, “Charge into Fire Safety™: Lithium-Ion Batteries in Your Home,” highlights the safe use, charging, and disposal of rechargeable batteries commonly found in electronics, power tools, and toys. The campaign urges the public to Buy, Charge, and Recycle Safely when dealing with lithium-ion batteries.
Fire Prevention Week activities begin on Sunday, October 5 at 1 p.m. at Fire Station 1 (307 S. Randolph Street), where Mayor Deb Feinen will issue an official proclamation. An Open House and Resource Fair will follow. Additional events, including open houses at neighborhood stations, are planned throughout the week.
