CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) – As prom season approaches, local teens and community members have something special to look forward to: the return of the C-U Prom Giveaway, a completely free event offering prom attire and accessories for all.

Organized by former Champaign County Recorder of Deeds Mike Ingram, the giveaway has become an annual tradition since its launch in 2022. Inspired by his aunts’ resale shop in Rossville, which has donated hundreds of dresses over the years, Ingram has expanded the mission to serve a wider audience in Champaign.

The event welcomes everyone — from high school students to adults — with no cost for any of the items. Visitors can expect to find a wide variety of dresses, shoes, clutches, hats, jewelry, and even some menswear, all available on a first-come, first-served basis.

The giveaway is held at The Lincoln Building (44 E. Main St. #102) in downtown Champaign. Open hours for this season include:

  • April 15 from 3–6 p.m.

  • April 17 from 3–6 p.m.

Organizers encourage people to follow the Facebook event page for updates and additional information. Volunteers, especially those with sewing skills, are invited to join and help make the event a success. Drop off donated items at Farren’s, Beads N Botanicals, Fire Doll Studio, Catch My Thrift in Lincoln Square, Keller Williams at 2441 Village Green Place.

Whether you’re looking to save money, reduce waste, or simply find the perfect look, the C-U Prom Giveaway offers a welcoming, inclusive space to get prom-ready — no strings attached.
