CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (Chambana Today) — The Baroque Artists of Champaign-Urbana (BACH) is calling on experienced singers to audition for their upcoming concert, “Winter Comfort,” which will be performed on Sunday, March 8, 2026. Auditions will be held on Sunday, January 4, from 3 to 5 p.m. at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, located at 2200 Philo Road in Urbana.

BACH, a well-established local nonprofit choir specializing in Baroque and classical music, invites singers of all backgrounds to join their 40-plus member ensemble for this exciting winter performance. To schedule an audition, interested singers are encouraged to complete the online audition request form at baroqueartists.org.

“Nine rehearsals on Monday evenings will lead up to the local nonprofit choir’s next concert, ‘Winter Comfort,’ on Sunday, March 8,” said Sarah Riskind, BACH Music Director. “This concert is full of gorgeous pieces that singers will love to learn,” she added, “including one of my all-time favorites, Josef Rheinberger’s Abendlied.” The program also features Franz Biebl’s popular Ave Maria and works by Hildegard von Bingen, Thomas Tallis, J.S. Bach, Maurice Duruflé, Margaret Bonds, and Moses Hogan.

Auditions include singing scales, sight-reading, and performing a short piece of the singer’s choice, unaccompanied.

Founded in 1996, BACH specializes in music of the Baroque, but performs music from all periods. The choir’s 40-plus members are a mix of experienced amateurs and professional musicians, from students to retirees.

BACH’s spring concert season will continue on May 31 with “As the Deer Longs,” featuring a series of pieces using the text of Psalm 42. On June 16, BACH will perform by invitation at the opening concert of the Five Cities Baroque Festival.
