URBANA, IL (Chambana Today) – The City of Urbana and the Urbana Arts & Culture Program announced the fifth Poet Laureate, Angela Patton.

Patton is a published book author, small business owner, and works for Champaign County. She worked as a journalist and editor earlier into her career. She was also a communications professional at the University of Illinois for over a decade. She was selected through a competitive application process. The poet laureate receives a $2,000 honorarium for the one-year term, funded by the City of Urbana’s Arts & Culture Program.

Patton’s proposal to lead workshops for writers and build writing programming for Urbana residents impressed the jury. The mission of the Poet Laureate program is to celebrate poetry, creative writing, and the arts to enrich Urbana’s community through outreach activities. The Poet Laureate is selected every year. The selection celebration is open to the public on Wednesday, April 30 at the Gallery Art Bar.
