American Red Cross urges donors to donate blood after thousands of canceled appointments

CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) – The American Red Cross is urging donors to give blood or platelets after thousands of donations went uncollected in January.

Red Cross encourages people of all blood types, especially those with type O negative to allow hospitals to ensure critical care. In January, more than 15,000 blood and platelet donations were canceled due to severe winter weather and wildfires. With February continuing, potential for severe weather and illnesses have the potential to cancel scheduled donation appointments.
