URBANA, IL (Chambana Today) — Cunningham Children’s Home is marking a major milestone this fall with the 5th Annual Be a Hero 5K, set for October 4, on their Urbana campus. The event celebrates five years of community fun and fundraising for local youth and families.

Early registration is now open for just $25 through September 4, after which the price increases to $30. The race supports the nearly 1,000 youth and families served by Cunningham each year.

Participants are also encouraged to sponsor a Cunningham youth for just $10, covering a race entry, a superhero cape, and a post-run donut. Many of the students from Cunningham’s residential programs and CIRCLE Academy have participated in past years and are excited to join again.

For those who can’t attend in person, there are still ways to contribute. Monetary donations can be made in honor or memory of a personal hero, with all proceeds supporting the programs and services Cunningham provides.

The event also relies on volunteers to help with everything from water stations to clean-up crews, and spots are still open for individuals and groups who want to be part of the effort.

The Be a Hero 5K is organized by Cunningham Children’s Home, a ministry of the United Women in Faith of the Illinois Great Rivers Conference, and generously supported by community donors and sponsors.
