The newly launched Honor Fund for first responders and military veterans has announced its first grant recipient: Mission K9 Warrior.

Mission K9 Warrior was created by Dave Hughes and Georgetown American Legion Post 203 to acquire and train dogs to assist with veterans with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

WIXY / WYXY Honor Fund to donate $5,000 to Mission K9 Warrior
Mission K9 Warrior’s Dave Hughes called the $5,000 gift a “wonderful surprise” which will help his organization purchase another dog for a veteran with PTSD. “Our cost to acquire and train a dog is $10,000, so this gift from Honor Fund, WIXY, WYXY Classic and its partners is going to really move our timeline in a positive way.”

The listener-support Honor Fund was launched in early 2019 by Illini Radio Group stations WIXY 100.3 and WYXY Classic 99.1. Honor Fund’s Pillar Sponsors are PDR Automotive, Tatman’s Towing, Dillman Brothers Roofing, Siding, Windows and Garage Doors, and Rose Heating and Air. Each has made a significant financial commitment to support local first responders and veterans.
