Champaign County celebrates 250 years of independence with full-day July 4 festivities

CHAMPAIGN COUNTY, IL — After more than seven decades as a cornerstone of local Independence Day celebrations, the Champaign County Freedom Celebration (CCFC) returns in 2026 with a full day of family-friendly events, honoring both tradition and the nation’s 250th anniversary.

The parade features marching bands from local schools, creative floats, and community organizations.

Evening entertainment begins at 6 p.m., culminating in a fireworks spectacular at 9:15 p.m. under the stars. Families can enjoy food vendors, live music from Captain Rat and the Blind Rivets, inflatables, sensory activities, and face painting throughout the day.
