Where were you born and raised? A suburb of St. Louis called Winchester. Sort of a small town within a big city. If I’d stayed I’d probably be mayor today. And police chief.
How long have you been in radio? The full time work began at WMCL in McLeansboro, in Southern Illinois. I’ve spent time in upstate New York, Kentucky and Virginia. And by “spent time” I don’t mean prison.
Did you do anything before radio? Pretended I was on the radio! As a kid I would record song introductions and newscasts on a cassette recorder. That didn’t pay the bills so when I got older I waited tables, sold cheese, worked as a gardener, sold shoes… then went to a broadcasting school.
Share something from your personal life. I’ve been married ten years to Deb. She’s funny, fun, creative an beautiful.
What do you like to eat? You name it I’ll eat it, though I try to eat healthy. I’ve lost quite a bit of weight over the last 10+ years so try to stick with lots of veggies, fruits and unprocessed meats. French fries are a rare treat. If I go out to eat I pick quality restaurants with the best foods. Life’s too short to eat a lot of junk.
What do you do after the show? Work out at our amazing YMCA; bike; work with the Illinois Marathon committee; donate at Community Blood Services; go to movies; work in the yard and garden with my wife; mentor through the CU 1 to 1 Mentoring program.
